If paver work is to be installed at grade. Then excavated all unsuitable material to a minimum depth of 8 inches. Then compact the area with a plate compactor. If work is to be done above grade. Then build the appropriate retaining structure around the perifery of the work to be done.
Then in both cases backfill with suitable,dense graded aggregate to a depth of ( 4-6 inches for pedestrian traffic, 8-12 inches for vehicular traffic) . Then compact the aggregate with a plate compactor.
Place a bedding course of washed concrete sand conforming to the grading requirements of ASTM C33, to a uniform depth of 1- 1.5 inches. In some areas stone dust is allowed instead of sand. Screed to the grade and profile required. Allow a grade away from structures for water drainage.
Install the pavers on top of the bedding course. Making sure for proper alignment. Where required cut pavers to fit, using approved tools and following OSHA standards, or the safety standards that are required in your area.
Tamp pavers with a plate compactor, uniformly level, true to grade and free of movement. Then fill the joints between the pavers with fine sand by sweeping it into the joints.
